Multimedia Authoring: Exploring New Rhetorics
Digital Technology and Culture/English 355
Professor Katherine Ericsson
This course is designed to help you explore both theoretical and practical considerations of multimedia authoring. Specifically, we will look at how rhetoric functions in and through multimedia texts. Attention will be paid to how meaning is constructed through the use of images, sounds, arrangements, colors, shapes, sizes, movement, and fonts. Through analyzing the ways rhetors construct multimedia texts, we will consider the best practices for composing our own multimedia texts. Additionally, while both analyzing and composing multimedia texts, we will consider evolving notions of reading, writing, and literacy that shape and are being shaped by "new media."
